Why is disability a protected characteristic?
Opportunities should be available to all, irrespective of whether or not individuals have a physical or mental impairment, which has a substantial, and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.
RELIGION
Why is religion a protected characteristic?
No one religion or branch of a religion overrides another, all beliefs are protected and equal whether religious or philosophical. Employees are protected against discrimination because they have a religious faith or a philosophical belief, as well as because they do not.
GENDER
Why is gender a protected characteristic?
Nobody should feel that their gender impacts on their daily or professional lives. The same opportunities and advantages should be available to everyone, whether male or female or however they identify.
SEXUALITY
Why is sexuality a protected characteristic?
Ultimately, it is the right and correct thing to do. Sexual orientation is protected to ensure discrimination does not occur based on sexual orientation for any reason in the workplace and recruitment process.
