Many types of discrimination exist which can be broken down into key areas:
Harassment –including less favourable treatment, unwanted conduct, and unwanted conduct of a sexual nature. For example –receiving inappropriate/unwanted comments about your appearance
Direct discrimination –directly being discriminated against because of gender.For example –being denied a promotion based on sex
Indirect discrimination – less obvious and sometimes unintentional. For example – a policy is applied across a whole organisation, but may disadvantage those of the opposite sex
Victimisation – targeted discrimination based on actions. For example –an individual is treated detrimentally because they have made or intend to make a complaint or allegation of sex/gender discrimination at work
