Corps Together – Gender Reassignment
Why is gender reassignment a protected characteristic?
No-one should be treated differently because you have had gender reassignment, or are trans, transgender, trans male or trans female. Trans is an umbrella term to describe people whose gender is not the same as, or does not sit comfortably with, the sex they were assigned at birth. Gender reassignment does not have to involve a medical process, nor do you have to have gone through any treatment or surgery to change from your birth sex to your preferred gender.
Having gender reassignment does not define competence or capability in the workplace, but everyone should feel valued and be able to bring their whole self to work, irrespective of how they choose to identify.
